STEAM Lab in School
STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics has become a significant term in schools. I have observed an increase demand for STEAM/ STEM/ Design/ Tinker/ Fab Lab in Schools. You can give it any or all these names as they belong to same category. The idea of such labs is to foster innovation, impart 21st century skills in the student.
By 21st century skills I mean Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Information literacy, Media Literacy, Technology Literacy, Flexibility, Leadership, Initiative, Productivity, Social Skills.
How to start a STEAM lab in a School?
STEAM lab is divided in 2 parts.

Lets start with the products part first. So what products is adequate or good to keep in a STEAM Lab. I have categorized STEAM products in 6 different sections:
1. DIY- Do It Yourself Kits

2. Machines
Machines 3D printer, Robotic Arm, CNC Milling, Vinyl Plotter, Soldering Station, Drill Machine, etc.

Tools are hardware tools like Hammer, Hacksaw, Chisel Set, Screwdriver Set, Spanner Sets, Pliers, Glue Gun, Hot Air Gun, File Set, Flexible Cutting Mat etc.
4. Electronics
Electronics include LED's, Resistors, Capacitors, Diodes, Relays, Programming Boards, Sensors, etc.
5. Safety Equipment
Safety Equipment includes Goggles, Gloves, Mask, Aprons, Fire Extinguisher, First Aid Kit etc
6. Stationary
Stationary is necessary for Art work and designing. It includes colored papers, scissors, tapes, glitters, cardboard, etc.
